Scottish islands
Archipelagos off Scotland
Scottish islands refers to the numerous islands off the coast of Scotland, numbering around 800, of which roughly 130 are inhabited.
The most significant groups include the Hebrides (divided into Inner and Outer), the Orkney Islands, and the Shetland Islands.
These islands are known for their rugged landscapes, distinctive Gaelic and Norse heritage, and remote communities.
We spent our honeymoon touring the Scottish islands.
The term functions as a geographic and cultural designation rather than a formal administrative one.
