Scaramouch

Boastful but craven

Scaramouch is a stock character from Italian commedia dell'arte—a cowardly braggart in black who gets beaten by Harlequin.

The name has come to mean any boastful coward or rascal.

It appears most famously in Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody": Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the fandango?
