POW exchange
Captive trade deal
A POW exchange is the transfer of prisoners of war between opposing sides during or after a conflict.
These swaps may be negotiated for specific individuals or conducted as large-scale repatriations: The POW exchange brought home soldiers who had been held for years.
Exchanges often involve diplomatic negotiations and may be unequal in numbers, trading many captives for a few high-value prisoners.
