Oklahoma Sooners
Norman's gridiron representatives
The Oklahoma Sooners are the athletic teams of the University of Oklahoma, competing in NCAA Division I sports.
The name references the settlers who claimed land in Oklahoma Territory before the official opening in 1889—jumping the gun on the land rush.
Football dominates the program's identity, with seven national championships.
The Sooners are playing Texas this weekend.
