Mother Theresa
Charitable Calcutta nun
Mother Teresa (also spelled Theresa) was an Albanian-born Catholic nun who founded the Missionaries of Charity in Calcutta, India, dedicating her life to serving the poorest of the poor.
Canonized as a saint in 2016, her name has become shorthand for selfless compassion: You don't have to be Mother Teresa to volunteer at a soup kitchen.
The phrase often appears in disclaimers about one's own limitations: I'm no Mother Teresa, but I try to help where I can.
