Max Payne

Max Payne is a video game franchise featuring a New York detective whose wife and infant daughter are murdered, setting him on a revenge-fueled rampage through the criminal underworld.

The games pioneered "bullet time"—slow-motion gunfights inspired by action films.

The name puns on "maximum pain," fitting the noir atmosphere and the protagonist's suffering.

I spent the weekend replaying Max Payne.
