MRSA infection
Antibiotic-resistant bacterial illness
MRSA infection is an infection caused by a strain of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria resistant to common antibiotics like methicillin.
MRSA spreads through skin contact or contaminated surfaces, causing anything from skin boils to life-threatening bloodstream infections.
It's particularly dangerous in hospitals and nursing homes, where vulnerable patients and antibiotic use create ideal conditions: He picked up an MRSA infection after surgery.
