L-plates
Beginner driver indicators
L-plates are signs displaying a red letter L on a white background, required on vehicles driven by learner drivers in the UK and some other countries.
They alert other motorists that the driver is inexperienced and still learning.
Figuratively, someone still on L-plates is new to a skill or role: I'm still on my L-plates with this software.
