Jack Torrance
Jack Torrance is the protagonist of Stephen King's 1977 novel *The Shining* and its 1980 film adaptation.
A recovering alcoholic and aspiring writer, he takes a job as winter caretaker of the isolated Overlook Hotel, where he descends into madness and attempts to murder his family.
The character, memorably portrayed by Jack Nicholson in Stanley Kubrick's film, has become an archetype of paternal menace and creative frustration turned violent: He's giving off serious Jack Torrance vibes.
