Iraqi Army
Mesopotamian national force
The Iraqi Army is the ground warfare branch of Iraq's armed forces.
It has been rebuilt multiple times—after the fall of the Ottoman Empire, after the 2003 U.S. invasion dissolved it entirely, and following its collapse against ISIS in 2014.
The Iraqi Army recaptured Mosul in 2017.
The force has struggled with sectarian divisions, corruption, and questions of combat readiness.
