Incan empire
Machu Picchu's builders
The Incan empire was the largest pre-Columbian civilization in the Americas, spanning much of western South America from present-day Colombia to Chile.
Centered in Cusco (modern Peru), it flourished from the early 15th century until Spanish conquest in the 1530s.
The Incas built an extensive road network, developed sophisticated agricultural terracing, and constructed monuments like Machu Picchu.
The Incan empire stretched along the Andes for nearly 2,500 miles.
