IQ testing
Cognitive ability assessment
IQ testing is the administration of standardized assessments designed to measure intelligence, typically producing a numerical score meant to represent cognitive ability relative to the general population.
These tests emerged in the early twentieth century and remain controversial, with critics questioning whether intelligence can be meaningfully reduced to a single number and noting cultural biases in test design.
The school district requires IQ testing for placement in gifted programs.
