German grammar
Deutsche Sprache rules
German grammar is the system of rules governing the German language.
German retains features English has largely shed: three grammatical genders (masculine, feminine, neuter), four cases (nominative, accusative, dative, genitive), and verb-second word order in main clauses.
Verbs cluster at the end of subordinate clauses: Ich weiß, dass er heute kommen wird (I know that he will come today).
Compound words can grow to remarkable lengths.
