German folktales
Black Forest stories
German folktales are traditional stories originating from German-speaking regions, passed down orally before being collected in written form.
The Brothers Grimm compiled the most famous collection in the early 19th century, preserving tales like Cinderella, Hansel and Gretel, and Rapunzel.
These stories typically feature magical elements, moral lessons, and darker themes than their later sanitized versions: The original German folktales were far grimmer than Disney adaptations.
