Devi Mahatmya
Hindu goddess text
Devi Mahatmya is a Sanskrit religious text, part of the Markandeya Purana, celebrating the Hindu goddess Durga and her triumph over demonic forces.
Central to Shaktism—the worship of the divine feminine—it recounts three myths of the goddess defeating evil, most famously the buffalo demon Mahishasura.
The text is recited during Navaratri, the nine-night festival honoring the goddess.
