DB Cooper

DB Cooper is the pseudonym of an unidentified man who hijacked a Northwest Orient Airlines flight in 1971, extorted $200,000 in ransom, then parachuted from the plane over the Pacific Northwest and was never found.

The case remains the only unsolved airline hijacking in American history.

The name has become shorthand for a perfect disappearance or audacious escape: He pulled a DB Cooper and vanished without a trace.
