Cold War politics

East-West ideological tensions

Cold War politics refers to the ideological, diplomatic, and strategic maneuvering between the United States and Soviet Union from roughly 1947 to 1991.

The term extends to any situation where opposing sides engage in indirect confrontation—proxy conflicts, propaganda, espionage, and brinkmanship—rather than direct warfare: The office rivalry has devolved into Cold War politics.
