Christmas cracker
Festive table novelty
A Christmas cracker is a festive British novelty consisting of a cardboard tube wrapped in colorful paper, pulled apart by two people at holiday meals.
When the cracker splits, a small explosive strip makes a snapping sound, and the contents spill out: typically a paper crown, a small trinket, and a slip of paper with a joke or riddle.
The tradition dates to Victorian England and remains a staple of British Christmas celebrations.
We all wore our paper crowns from the crackers during dinner.
