Carnival floats
Decorated rolling platforms
Carnival floats are large decorated platforms mounted on wheels, designed to be driven or towed through streets during parades.
They typically feature elaborate themes, sculptures, and sometimes performers riding aboard: The Mardi Gras floats were covered in purple and gold.
Building floats is a tradition in celebrations from Rio's Carnival to small-town holiday parades.
The name comes from early floats that were actual barges floated down rivers.
