CFL bulbs
Coiled fluorescent tubes
CFL bulbs are compact fluorescent light bulbs—energy-efficient alternatives to traditional incandescent bulbs that use a coiled tube design to fit standard lamp sockets.
They produce light by passing electricity through gas, requiring less energy than incandescent bulbs but more than LEDs.
Once promoted as an eco-friendly choice, CFLs have largely been displaced by LED technology: We still have some old CFL bulbs in the basement.
