C3b
C3b is a fragment of complement component 3 (C3), a protein central to the immune system's complement cascade.
When C3 is cleaved during an immune response, C3b attaches to pathogen surfaces, marking them for destruction by phagocytes—a process called opsonization.
C3b also helps form enzymes that amplify the complement response, making it crucial for innate immunity.
