Black Muslim
American Islamic separatists
A Black Muslim is a member of the Nation of Islam, a religious and political movement founded in the United States in the 1930s that combines elements of Islam with Black nationalist ideology.
The term was common in mid-20th-century journalism: Malcolm X was the most famous Black Muslim of his era.
Some adherents prefer "Nation of Islam member," as Black Muslim can conflate the specific organization with the broader population of Black people who practice mainstream Islam.
