August Wilson

Century of drama

August Wilson was an American playwright whose ten-play cycle, known as the Pittsburgh Cycle or Century Cycle, chronicled the African American experience across each decade of the twentieth century.

His most celebrated works include *Fences* and *The Piano Lesson*, both of which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.

Wilson's plays are distinguished by their rich vernacular dialogue, complex characters, and exploration of identity, legacy, and systemic racism.

He is widely regarded as one of the most important dramatists in American theater history.
