Arthur Dent
Arthur Dent is the protagonist of Douglas Adams's *The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy*, an ordinary, perpetually bewildered Englishman swept into absurd intergalactic adventures after Earth is demolished to make way for a hyperspace bypass.
His name has become shorthand for an everyman thrust into circumstances far beyond his comprehension: I felt like Arthur Dent trying to understand the new software.
