12-hour clock
Twice-daily cycle display
A 12-hour clock divides the day into two periods of twelve hours each, distinguished as a.m. (midnight to noon) and p.m. (noon to midnight).
This is the standard time format in everyday American speech and writing: I'll meet you at 3 o'clock.
Contrast with the 24-hour clock used in military, scientific, and much international contexts.
