zanies
Comedic foolish types
Zanies is the plural of zany—people who act in comically wild or outlandish ways.
The word originally referred to comic performers in Italian commedia dell'arte who mimicked the lead clowns.
Now it describes anyone given to absurd antics or buffoonery: The zanies in the writers' room kept pitching increasingly ridiculous sketches.
