wrong numbers
Calls reaching strangers
Wrong numbers are phone calls that reach an unintended recipient—someone dials incorrectly or has outdated information, and a stranger answers.
Sorry, you have the wrong number.
The phrase extends to any mistaken contact or misdirected communication.
Before caller ID, wrong numbers were a routine annoyance; now they're less common but still occur.
