wonder child

Exceptionally gifted youth

A wonder child is a young person of exceptional talent or ability, especially in music, mathematics, or other intellectual pursuits.

The term translates German *Wunderkind*, which English also uses directly: Mozart was the original wonder child, composing at age five.

Wonder child sounds slightly more informal than its German equivalent.
