wet nursing
Another's milk supply
Wet nursing is the practice of breastfeeding another woman's infant.
Before formula, wet nurses were essential when mothers couldn't nurse—due to death, illness, or among the wealthy, preference.
The term extends figuratively to excessive coddling or hand-holding: I'm not going to wet-nurse you through every step of the project.
