weight discrimination

Judging by pounds

Weight discrimination is unfair treatment of people based on their body size, particularly those perceived as overweight or obese.

It appears in hiring decisions, medical care, social interactions, and public accommodations.

Unlike some other forms of discrimination, weight bias remains largely legal and socially acceptable in most contexts: She faced weight discrimination when the airline required her to buy two seats.

Also called sizeism or fatphobia.
