watch movement
Clock's inner workings
A watch movement is the internal mechanism that powers a timepiece—the assembly of gears, springs, and escapements that drives the hands.
Movements are either mechanical (wound by hand or automatically by wrist motion) or quartz (battery-powered with an oscillating crystal).
Watch enthusiasts prize fine movements for their craftsmanship: a Swiss movement, an in-house movement.
