visual texture
Seen but unfelt
Visual texture is the appearance of texture in a two-dimensional image—the way a surface looks like it would feel if touched.
A photograph of bark has visual texture; so does a painting that depicts rough stone or soft fabric.
Unlike actual texture, which can be felt, visual texture is perceived through the eyes alone: The artist created visual texture through careful brushwork.
