Valley girls are young women from California's San Fernando Valley, or those who affect the speech patterns and materialism associated with them.
The stereotype emerged in the 1980s: affluent, shallow teenage girls using distinctive slang marked by uptalk and words like totally, like, and gag me with a spoon.
The term is usually dismissive.
