urban loft

An urban loft is a large, open living space converted from a former industrial or commercial building—typically a warehouse or factory.

Lofts feature high ceilings, exposed brick, visible ductwork, and minimal interior walls: They bought an urban loft in a converted textile mill.

The style became associated with artists in the 1970s and later with upscale city living.
