upstages

Overshadows the star

Upstages means draws attention away from someone else, typically by outshining or outperforming them: The supporting actor completely upstaged the lead.

The term comes from theater, where moving upstage (toward the back) forces other actors to turn away from the audience.

To upstage can also mean to treat someone dismissively or make them feel less important.
