upstaged

Stole the spotlight

Upstaged means overshadowed or outshone by someone else's performance or presence.

The term comes from theater, where an actor moving upstage (toward the back) forces others to turn away from the audience.

Now it applies broadly: She felt upstaged by her sister's announcement at the party.

To be upstaged is to have attention stolen from you.
