unreconstructed
Refusing to change
Unreconstructed describes someone who stubbornly holds to old views or practices despite pressure to change.
The term originated after the American Civil War for Southerners who refused to accept defeat or Reconstruction policies: an unreconstructed Confederate.
Now it applies to anyone clinging to outdated positions: an unreconstructed Marxist, an unreconstructed sexist.
The word usually carries disapproval, though some wear it as a badge of defiance.
