unfathomableness

Quality of inscrutability

The quality of being impossible to understand or measure.

Unfathomableness describes depths—literal or figurative—that cannot be sounded or comprehended: the unfathomableness of the universe, the unfathomableness of her grief.

The word is unwieldy and rarely used; most writers prefer the simpler *unfathomable* as an adjective.
