underreacting

Staying too calm

Underreacting is responding with less emotion or urgency than a situation seems to warrant.

The opposite of overreacting.

Someone who underreacts to bad news might seem calm or detached when others expect distress: She underreacted to the diagnosis—just nodded and asked about next steps.

The term often carries implicit criticism, suggesting insufficient concern.
