undercompensating

Not rewarding enough

Undercompensating is failing to offset or make up for something sufficiently.

Where overcompensating goes too far in response to a perceived weakness, undercompensating doesn't go far enough: He was undercompensating for the wind and his shots kept falling short.

The term often appears in discussions of steering corrections, salary adjustments, or psychological responses to insecurity.
