The common name comes from the hooded shape of the flowers, which resemble a turtle's head with its mouth open: The turtleheads along the stream are blooming.
In vulgar slang, a turtlehead is a piece of feces partially emerging from the anus, from the visual resemblance: I've got a turtlehead poking out.
