triplanes

Stackable wing designs

Triplanes are aircraft with three main wings stacked vertically, one above another.

Popular briefly during World War I, they offered high lift in a compact wingspan but were soon superseded by more efficient designs.

The Fokker Dr.I, flown by the Red Baron, remains the most famous example: The museum displayed a replica triplane.
