trial phase
Preliminary testing period
A trial phase is a distinct stage in testing something before full implementation or approval.
The term appears most often in pharmaceutical development, where clinical trial phases (I, II, III) progressively test drug safety and efficacy on larger groups: The vaccine is still in the trial phase.
More broadly, any project's trial phase is its testing period before launch or widespread adoption.
