transfer switch
Source selection device
A transfer switch is an electrical device that moves a power load between two sources—typically between utility power and a backup generator.
During outages, the switch disconnects from the grid and connects to the generator, preventing dangerous backfeed into power lines.
Transfer switches may be manual or automatic: The automatic transfer switch kicked in when the power went out.
