traditional rhymes
Classic children's poetry
Traditional rhymes are verses passed down through generations, typically learned in childhood—nursery rhymes, counting rhymes, jump-rope chants, and similar oral traditions.
They often feature simple meters, repetition, and nonsense words: Ring around the rosie, Eeny, meeny, miny, moe.
Many persist despite their origins being forgotten or their original meanings lost.
