traditional characters
Unsimplified Chinese writing
Traditional characters are the older, more complex forms of Chinese writing, preserved in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau while mainland China adopted simplified characters in the 1950s.
Traditional forms retain more strokes and historical structure: 國 versus simplified 国, 學 versus 学.
Scholars, calligraphers, and readers of classical texts often prefer traditional characters for their aesthetic richness and connection to historical documents.
