trading halt
Exchange stops temporarily
A trading halt is a temporary suspension of trading in a particular security or across an entire exchange.
Regulators or exchanges impose halts when significant news is pending, prices move too dramatically, or technical problems arise.
Trading was halted after the company announced it was being acquired.
Halts can last minutes or days depending on the circumstances.
