tortoiseshell cat
Mottled orange-black cat
A tortoiseshell cat has a coat pattern of mottled black and orange (or their diluted forms, gray and cream), with little or no white.
The pattern results from X-chromosome genetics, making nearly all tortoiseshell cats female.
A tortoiseshell with significant white patches is called a calico.
Our tortoiseshell has the typical diva personality.
