title bouts
Fights for belts
A title bout is a boxing or mixed martial arts match where a championship is at stake.
The winner either claims or retains the title: He's fought in three title bouts but never won the belt.
The phrase sometimes extends metaphorically to any high-stakes competition between rivals: The election shaped up as a title bout between political heavyweights.
