tire barriers
Rubber crash cushions
Tire barriers are stacks of used tires, often bound together and sometimes filled with sand, placed along racetracks, roads, or construction zones to absorb impact from colliding vehicles.
The rubber cushions crashes better than rigid barriers: The driver walked away after hitting the tire barriers at turn four.
They offer cheap, effective protection where permanent installations aren't practical.
